Sleeping Through Festivals
Festivals are enjoyed throughout the year across different religions, nationalities and countries. Unfortunately, several are celebrated at night which contradicts with the human body’s requirement to sleep. Millions of people stay up all night celebrating and partying. However, are the tremendous after effects of this really worth it?It is often difficult to get sleep during loud and noisy celebrations, such as that which takes place on the 4th of July. This 4th of July, over 13,500 fireworks were used, creating an immense amount of noise, resulting in the inability to sleep for individuals celebrating, as well as individuals residing near locations at which this festival is celebrated. If you do not celebrate the 4th of July or wish to improve your sleep schedule on this day to reduce your chances of getting heightened stress responses and performance deficits, the below tips are for you!
Creating calming sounds such as white noise or even soft music can reduce disruption. Investing in a low cost white noise machine has great long term benefits as it can drown out loud sounds whilst making a sound that allows comfortable sleep, even if there is commotion outside. If investing in white noise machines is not possible, using soft music can achieve the same effect, though not as well. To block the bright light that is seen from fireworks or streets outside, using dark curtains is best. In fact, dark curtains also serve the purpose of keeping noise away! Moreover, limiting your consumption of alcohol will help promote healthy sleep. On lively festivals such as the 4th of July, it is very easy to get carried away by alcohol but this can drastically hinder your sleep cycle as it affects the amount of time we get deep sleep, which is crucial for our health and wellbeing.
These easy and feasible solutions can be life changing for you if you implement them as mentioned. Maybe not just for the 4th of July next year, but even for upcoming festivals such as Deepavali, these solutions can have a huge impact on the basic sleep requirements during festivals and improve your wellbeing.
